"Potence" style lamp

February 05, 2011 9 Comments

After seeing this on the-brick-house, I decided to take a crack at making my own version of a Potence lamp and here's what I came up with messing around a few hours after work. The lamp is made with 1/2" steel tubing and steel flat  bar. The handle is made out of a scrap piece of mahogany that i turned on the lathe. I used cloth-covered wire that I bought from sundial wire , and electrical plugs and fittings from Lowes. I know it's not perfect but it was a quick first attempt. If I make more, I know some better ways to do things but for now I'm satisfied with the lamp.

Very, very nice. I know that this is your first protype, even though it looks great, you will make another better. Do you provide DIY instruction so I could make one myself?
Cheers!

The Potence lamp was love-at-first sight for me, and will probably always be a love unrequited… Wow, but this makes it seem at least a BIT more attainable! :)

I’d love one too. Mail me if you’re interested in sending one to Ireland.
