Fully upholstered tripod chair

A few years ago I designed a chair out of a single piece of bent plywood and a steel tripod style base. I've made a few variations of it over the last few years but yesterday I wanted to try a full upholstered seat version of it.

Roxy had ordered some colorful tweed fabrics to experiment with so I figured this would be a good time to try them out. There were so many good choices so I decided to open it ip for suggestions on my Instagram story. Alot of you guys responded with opinions! We managed to get it narrowed down to these 4.

I had made the Oak plywood seat a few months ago and saved it after drilling 2 too many holes in it as I was mocking up the base. The bright blue color ended up winning out in the end. I do like the way it contrasted with the Oak seat so I think it was a good choice. Thanks guys! (it was also Roxy's favorite).

I formed another thinner seat that fits inside the chair out of plywood and trimmed in down 1/4" smaller all the way around. I then covered it in 1/2" thick foam and then wrapped it with the tweed fabric and stapled it to the back of the plywood seat with 1/4" long upholstery staples. The only tricky part here was keep the material smooth and tight everywhere.

The end result turned out pretty cool and the chair is very comfortable, especially considering how minimal it is. I'm currently using it as my desk chair and now i just want to make some more so i can try out those other fabric colors and combine them with different woods. Can you imagine that Red Orange color paired with Walnut? I can, and the whole time I was making this chair I was thinking about it.
